2011 shoe appeal details

Be the difference in a child’s life today – Give Shoes

What: Collecting gently worn and new shoes for the children, women and men of East Africa. We are looking for and accept all types of shoes for people of all ages and sizes (remembering that your gently worn shoes will be loved by the person who may have never owned one pair). You can check out our album on facebook to see some of the shoes which have been donated.

Why: 300 milion children globally do not own a pair of shoes.

Adults and children in developing countries are exposed to a myriad of difficult to control and treat infections which can be caused by cuts and scratches. In Australia, with access to clean water and good medications, these wouldn’t pose a major threat. However, in countries like Kenya and Tanzania, an infected cut on someone’s foot could be lethal.

Who: The Butterfly Movement in partnership with global charity Soles4Souls (

You: Each pair of shoes you donate saves a life. You can save the life of someone just like you; a sister, a brother, a daughter, a son, a mother, a father, a grandmother, a grandfather, with just one pair of your gently worn or new shoes.

How: Drop shoes to 131 Goodwood Road, Goodwood, South Australia (shop: Levant)

Tues & Wed: 10am til 5pm  :  Thurs: 9am til 6pm  :  Friday: 9am til 5pm  :  Sat: 9am til 4pm  : Sun: 11am til 3pm   :   Mon: closed

(Levant will be closed between Christmas and New Year, returning on January 3rd)

(where possible please tie the laces of shoes or place a rubber band around each pair of shoes to keep them safely together, thank you)

  1. Hi, I am able to get shoes from a deceased estate (female), plus other friends have shoes. I live at Seaview Downs and will certainly drop them off to you. I have lived and worked in Nairobi for 3 years, travelling with my late husband and eldest son all over East Africa. I used to speak Swahili, but afraid only know a few words now. I have a lot of time for the Africans who are a very intelligent race and lovely people. I still have contact with them thru my part time job of driving a school bus for my eldest son taking new primary school children to the language unit at southern schools. My mobile is 0405837270.

    • Hi Trish,
Thank you for getting in contact.
You are right, the people of East Africa are really lovely 🙂
Any shoes that you are able to collect and drop into Goodwood would be very much appreciated and loved by those who receive them. Thank you so much for offering to help in this way.
Hopefully I will get to meet you also.
      Warm regards,

  2. Hello, Dalice

Heard you on ABC radio the other morning, and then saw the article (which I had missed) in the Advertiser. My wife and I are spreading the word to our neighbours and our Church friends, and to friends who attend other Churches in Gawler. We will see what sort of response there is. If you hear of others from Gawler who show an interest, please feel free to put them in touch with Fay and I. Our home phone is 85225235.

    • Hi Leigh and Fay,

Thank you so much for you support.

I believe I may have had an enquiry about being able to donate shoes in your area so I will check up on this and provide them with your phone number.

Thank you again, this is incredible.

      Warm regards,

  3. Hi Dalice,
Candy Walker shared your web page because she thought I would be interested (she know your mum I believe). What a fantastic idea and I will definitely be contributing (how many pairs of shoes can one person wear after all, especially when some people have none???). I shared this info on my blog tonight and also on my facebook page. Just a tip, you should add a share button on your blog page to make it easy for people to share this info on their facebook and twitter pages.

Best of luck with such a worthwhile cause – there should be more people like you in this world 🙂

  4. Hi Dalice,

Well the shoe drive is in over drive here inthe South East. It has been fantastic. The shoes are coming all the time. The local WINTV are coming to do a story tomorrow afternoon and hopefully will be on tv tomorrow night. So we will continue to collect shoes til Christmas. Ill arrange for a freight company to bring them to Adelaide as I wont be able to fit them in the my car.

I am visiting a local school tomorrow to collect shoes and talk with the children.

Tonight we are going to start counting the shoes that we have and Ill let you know how many we have so far.

I will send you copies of the newspaper articles and a copy of the television news story too.

A lady dropped off numerous bags of shoes that were her fathers who past away recently, I told her that although he is no longer here, his shoes will change the lives of individuals in Africa…she was really moved and it made her feel happy to have that revelation. 🙂

Keep up the good work Dalice

Love from your cheerleaders in the South East.

  5. Hi,
I have quite a few pairs of shoes to donate, I live in the South East of Brisbane. Is their anyone I can drop them to.

    • Hi Lianne,

      Thank you for your support.

At this stage we only have collection points in South Australia. The aim is to have a shoe appeal interstate during the year next year, however, in the interim some people have chosen to post shoes to Adelaide. You are more than welcome however to wait until we are closer to you.

Thank you again for your support.

      Merry Christmas
